Mr. Magramane chaired the Algerian delegation attending the meeting to review progress in implementing the commitments of the Global Forum on Refugees

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr.Lounès Magramane, led the Algerian delegation participating in the meeting dedicated to evaluating progress made in implementing the commitments of the Global Refugee Forum (GRF), which is being held from December 15 to 17 in Geneva.
Speaking on the first day of the meeting, Mr.Magramane reaffirmed Algeria's firm commitment to the principles of international solidarity and shared responsibility, in an international context marked by numerous challenges, a resurgence of humanitarian crises, and an increase in the number of forced refugees, coupled with a decline in resources allocated to humanitarian action, which points to significant funding shortfalls.

Mr.Magramane affirmed that Algeria, based on its long-standing principles and humanitarian commitment, has continued for more than five decades to shelter Sahrawi refugees on its territory and provide them with the necessary support, in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), other UN agencies, and partner organizations
He stressed that this constant effort aims to preserve the dignity of refugees and ensure the continuity of basic services until a just and lasting solution is reached, promoting their voluntary and dignified return to their countries.
In this context, Mr.Magramane emphasized the need to address the root causes of forced asylum, including conflict and colonization, calling for a balanced approach based on humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions.
He underlined the legal and moral responsibility of the international community in dealing with asylum cases resulting from occupation or unresolved conflicts, particularly concerning Sahrawi refugees, within the framework of respect for the principles of international law.

The head of the delegation also highlighted the progress made in implementing the commitments made by Algeria at the Global Refugee Forum in 2023, particularly in the areas of health, education, and infrastructure, as well as the ongoing efforts to draft a comprehensive national asylum law in line with international standards and consistent with the requirements of national sovereignty.
He welcomed the fact that Algeria continues to fulfill its responsible and active role in supporting humanitarian action and defending just human causes.
