The Algerian government has taken note, with great regret and deep disapproval, of the unexpected, ill-timed and counterproductive decision of the French government providing unequivocal and unqualified support to Morocco&rsquo;s autonomy plan for Western Sahara. This decision was officially communicated to the Algerian authorities by the French authorities in recent days. The colonial powers, both old and new, tend to recognize, understand and assist one another. France&rsquo;s decision clearly stems from questionable political motives, morally dubious assumptions and legal interpretations that lack any foundation or justification. This French decision does not contribute to a peaceful resolution of the Western Sahara issue. Instead, it bolsters the impasse&ndash;one precisely created by the so-called Moroccan autonomy plan&ndash;which has lasted for more than seventeen years. Even though the international community has long been convinced that the Western Sahara issue undoubtedly falls under a decolonization process to be completed, this French decision twists the facts by giving credence to colonial practices and unjustifiably backs Morocco&rsquo;s alleged sovereignty over Western Sahara&rsquo;s territory. France&rsquo;s stance is especially unacceptable given that it comes from a permanent member of the Security Council supposed to adhere to the Council&rsquo;s decisions in particular and international law in general. Finally, at a time when the UN is mobilizing efforts to give new momentum to the process of seeking a political settlement to the conflict in Western Sahara, this French decision runs counter to these efforts and hinders progress towards peace, stability and security in the region. The Algerian government views that the French decision does not serve the objectives of peace in Western Sahara. It only serves to extend the current impasse, and both justifies and bolsters the colonial fait accompli in this territory. The Algerian government will consider all the consequences stemming from this French decision, for which the French government bears sole and complete responsibility.

Algeria roundly condemns the egregious Israeli aggression against Yemen. This aggression is part of the Zionist entity&rsquo;s systematic and regular escalation strategy, aimed at asserting domination over the entire region and diverting attention from its countless atrocities, especially in Gaza and occupied Palestine in general.

Even as the international judicial and criminal bodies are ramping up pressure, and global condemnation is mounting, the Zionist entity persists in its defiance and provocative actions, showing disregard for the international community and its resolutions in support of the Palestinian people and their legitimate cause.

Algeria urges the international community to fully assume its responsibilities and to ensure the criminal Israeli occupier is held accountable, prosecuted and sanctioned.

Algeria strongly welcomes the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice which does justice to the Palestinian people by recognizing their legitimate inalienable and imprescriptible rights to recover their territories usurped by the Israeli settlement occupation. This landmark development serves as a reminder to the International Community that the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict lies in the occupation&rsquo;s expansionist policies, based on forceful annexation of Palestinian territories, unrestrained settlement building and the establishment of the fait accompli with total impunity. This development also reveals that &ldquo;the objective behind these systematic violations is to undermine the Palestinian national project and nullify the two-State solution, enshrined and endorsed by international law for more than seven decades. Algeria, which warmly applauds this international Justice&rsquo;s victory for the Palestinian people, commits to ongoing efforts in the Security Council to enshrine the rights of the valiant Palestinians, end the Israeli aggression against them, especially in the Gaza Strip, and enable them to establish their independent and sovereign State with al-Quds as its capital, as a just, lasting and definitive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a prerequisite for restoring security and stability across the Middle East.
