The role of the Ministry of Foreign Affair
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plays an important role in following-up the implementation of Security Council resolutions at national level, particularly those concerning sanctions regimes.
Within this framework, a representative of the Ministry presides over the Targeted Sanctions Committee, and its Secretariat is established within the Ministry. In this capacity, it ensures coordination between the Committee and the competent Algerian authorities, for the implementation of the measures imposed by the United Nations Security Council sanctions regimes, and forwards annual reports to the Chairmen of the Security Council Sanctions Committees, as well as to the groups of experts of the said committees, at their request.
The members of the committee are appointed by decision of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for a renewable term of three (3) years from among persons holding senior positions, upon the recommendation of the authorities to which they report. Their appointments are terminated in the same manner.
The committee meets in ordinary sessions four (4) times a year and in extraordinary sessions whenever necessary, upon the call of its Chair.
