Mr. Chaib co-chaired with Mr. Haris Theoharis the third session of the joint Greek-Algerian commission, held in Athens on 20 January 2026

The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr Sofiane Chaib, and Greece’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Harry Theoharis, co-chaired the third session of the Algeria-Greece Joint Commission in Athens on Tuesday.

the session served as an opportunity to review bilateral cooperation and explore ways to strengthen ties in areas of mutual interest. Key sectors discussed included energy and renewables, justice, agriculture, culture, tourism, and communication, as well as modern technologies, start-ups, sports, and transport.

The two officials also exchanged views on pressing international and regional issues, the partnership between Algeria and the European Union (EU), and ways to enhance multilateral coordination.

The commission's work culminated in the signing of several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) spanning diplomatic training, sports, communications, national archives, and air services.

On the sidelines of the session, Mr Chaib held a series of bilateral meetings with Greek government members and high-level officials. These discussions focused on deepening consultations and further diversifying the areas of cooperation between the two friendly countries.
