The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr.Ahmed Attaf, participated, on Monday, in a ministerial meeting of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC), held via videoconference.

According to the statement, the meeting was devoted to discussing the serious developments in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo and exploring prospects for strengthening the role and contribution of the African Union in reaching a lasting peaceful solution to this crisis.

In his speech during the meeting, Mr.Attaf stressed the need to focus the African Union's efforts on three urgent priorities: implementing and consolidating the ceasefire, boosting political and diplomatic efforts between the conflicting parties, and addressing the root causes of the conflict.

The FM also highlighted the importance of activating all African mechanisms established to facilitate a political solution to this crisis, stressing that Africa’s role must complement the international efforts that recently led to the conclusion of two important agreements, namely the Washington Agreement and the Doha Agreement.

In conclusion, Mr.Attaf stated that Algeria will remain steadfast in its commitment to supporting an African solution to this crisis based on comprehensive dialogue and full respect for the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
